Over the past few weeks, students have explored multiplying a one digit number by a two digit number in many different ways. The first way was the area model -- drawing out an array representing the multiplication problem and then breaking it apart. The next way was the Partial Product method -- the array is removed and students solve the problem through place value. And then... we introduced the traditional algorithm.
In addition to our weekly Coding Club, the 4th graders explored coding with the national Hour of Code. Ms Brogna's room was filled with 49 fourth graders, a buzz of excitement, and small celebrations as students reached new levels.
Fourth grade writers are typing one of their narrative pieces. They are then turning these into picture books by drawing on the Paper App! They are coming out amazing!
This week we made a "water cycle in a bag". Students put a wet cotton ball in a plastic bag, sealed them and hung them in the window. Evaporation, condensation and even precipitation is happening. We also watched a video about the different types of precipitation and read an article about rain, sleet, freezing rain and snow.
Students are finishing up note taking on Lowell Mills. They are focusing on historical, economic and cultural facts. Students are referring to articles read, our Lowell Mills google site and our Social Studies Alive text book. After note taking on post its, students are taking these notes and turning them into a rough draft. The draft will then be typed into Explain Everything and turned into a mini-book. These will be coming home and shared with you!
