Students are crafting persuasive pieces on their favorite season! They are focusing on persuading the reader and adding description and details to make their pieces interesting!
Students are working on reading articles, identifying text structure and writing responses. They are also creating Reader's Reflection Journal pages that are showing comprehension of their independent reading book. Last week, Ms. Bisson came in and showed us a new way to show our learning through Thinglink. This is a platform that makes images interactive. Students picked a character from their independent reading book and showed the pressures this character is feeling.
We have been busy the last couple of weeks working with fractions. We are decomposing fractions and comparing them!
In English Language Arts, we are examining text structures of informational texts. We have identified five structures, cause and effect, problem and solution, description, sequential/chronological and compare/contrast. This week we will be reading passages, thinking about their text structure and writing open response paragraphs. Resources gathered from AK EED and Center on Instruction
This week we are participating in a small drumming workshop with two master drummers. We will try out different drums and learn techniques. On Friday afternoon, we will enjoy an assembly with a drumming demonstration by the master drummers.
We have moved on with our study of the regions of the United States. We are learning about the Southeast! We will examine climate maps, take a virtual tour through the Everglades, learn what a "gulf" is and discover the natural resources of this region.
